If rankings tell a story then Canada is an excellent choice for investors. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Canada is the world’s most attractive business environment, while the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2004 rates the country the third most competitive globally.

In the 2004 Competitive Alternatives study by professional services firm KPMG, Canada is the lowest-cost G7 country in which to do business. The results show it holding a 9% cost advantage relative to the US. Furthermore, Canada is the most cost-competitive country in nine of the 17 industry sectors studied, including biomedical research and development, clinical trials and back office/call centres.

Such factors make Canada the perfect option for investors, offering the best combination of infrastructure, trade and market opportunities.

As a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement, trade with the US continues to grow (it is already the biggest trading partnership in the world). The advent of the Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement will open markets further in Latin and South America. This will build on existing links with Europe and Asia.

In the past five years, Canada has enjoyed the fastest improvement in living standards among G7 countries, yet still enjoys the lowest cost of living.
